Shire to Implement IDBS’ Electronic Notebook to Bolster Virtual R&D Model

  • Shire has selected IDBS to support its virtual model for pharmaceutical research. The company will use IDBS' E-WorkBook Suite along with Quantix’ infrastructure to ensure flexibility in the choice, size, and diversity of its drug research collaborations with CROs.

By leveraging hosted services in combination with E-WorkBook, Shire reports that it will have a minimum IT footprint both in-house and at each CRO. The firm expects that this will eliminate the need for on-site data storage, provide secure access to remote data, facilitate collaboration, and reduce bottlenecks in knowledge transfer between organizations.

E-WorkBook is a scalable, searchable, and secure environment for the capture, management, and sharing of R&D data, IDBS explains. E-WorkBook's capabilities are further enhanced by hosting in a cloud-based environment, providing extensible computing power and flexible data storage. The security model provided by E-WorkBook addresses concerns around cloud computing and data security and delivers secure import of data from multiple CROs and partners with no risk of security breaches, IDBS adds.

“This new technology will support our remote vendor partnership relationships and enhance the transfer, review, and searching of data across our exploratory projects,” states Stephen Damment, svp of biosciences at Shire.
