Roche Launches Swine Flu Detection Kit for Research Purposes

  • Roche Applied Science  is pushing to get its just-launched detection kit for the swine flu virus A/H1N1 approved for use in emergency situations by local health authorities worldwide. The kit, currently only available for research applications, runs on Roche’s LightCycler(R) 480 II, 2.0 and 1.5 systems.

The company claims the kit has advantages over its competitors in terms of efficiency and handling. “The design of the new detection kits benefitted very much from information we got out of our manifold research cooperations,” says Manfred Baier, head of Roche Applied Science.

The kit was reportedly evaluated with virus-positive sample materials and selectively identifies the new influenza A H1N1 virus.
