PPG to Divest Fine Chemicals Segment for $65M to ZaCh System

  • ZaCh System plans to buy PPG Industries’ fine chemicals business for approximately $65 million. The acquisition will reinforce ZaCh System’s custom synthesis business strategy, according to Gianni Marini, board chairman.

“We are quite pleased to acquire a PPG business that is recognized as a technology leader with manufacturing locations in Europe and the United States.”

PPG facilities include a pharmaceutical fine chemicals plant in LaPorte, TX, and the PPG-Sipsy site in Avrille, France. The fine chemicals business employs approximately 360 people.

Completion of the transaction is expected in the fourth quarter.

Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
