PPD plans to invest $18 million to expand contract research operations into Athlone, Ireland. will initially establish a cGMP analytical testing laboratory to meet growing client demand in Europe, Middle East, and Africa.


PPD expects to begin operations by the second half of 2009. The plan will create 250 jobs for scientists, analytical laboratory staff, and other clinical development professionals, according to PPD.


Analytical testing services will be offered in method development and validation as well as stability and quality control testing for all phases of drug development—with particular emphasis on inhalation and biopharmaceutical products.
