Harvard Medical School and Merck & Co. to Advance Cancer and CNS Research

  • Harvard Medical School’s (HMS) Office of Technology Development and Merck & Co. signed a cooperative research agreement under which the partners will jointly advance research programs in oncology and central nervous system disorders.

    Funding will be provided for six HMS labs. Scientists from HMS and Merck will work collaboratively in an effort to unify the program’s goals.

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
