GE’s Proposed $8.13B Acquisition of Abbott Businesses Nixed

  • Abbott and GE have terminated their contract for the sale of Abbott's core laboratory and point-of-care diagnostics businesses to GE. The mutual decision was made after the two companies were unable to agree on final terms and conditions of the proposed sale.

    On January 19, GE reported plans to buy Abbott Diagnostics Division and Abbott Point of Care for $8.13B in cash.

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
