  • Responses are rolling in for the GEN Ten Top Life Science Tools and Technologies for 2012 survey. GEN recently posted the survey on the GEN website, inviting biotech researchers in both industry and academia to submit what they consider "THE" single, most important life science tool or technology to be introduced in 2012.

    If you have not yet entered your vote, there is still time to do so. Please click here to take the survey. The survey closes on October 31, 2012, and the final listing of the GEN Ten Top Life Science Tools and Technologies for 2012 will appear in the January 1, 2013 issue of GEN and on the GEN website.

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
