Chugai Denies Discussions with Roche

  • Chugai refuted a Bloomberg News story that reported that Roche was ready to pay $10 billion to take over the Japan-based firm. According to Chugai, “This report is not based on any announcement made by Chugai or Roche. Chugai is in no way in the process of reviewing any plan to become a wholly owned subsidiary of Roche, nor discussing with Roche about such a transaction.”

    Chugai officials added that “Roche, as usual, is not commenting on any market rumors.”

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
