Biomatrica and Qiagen Enter Into Marketing Agreement for Shipment and Storage Products

  • The agreement provides Qiagen with exclusive marketing rights for Biomatrica’s existing products for the storage of purified DNA beginning June, 2008. SampleMatrix® DNA storage products will continue to be available directly from Biomatrica for the next year. Biomatrica says its SampleMatrix products make it possible for scientists to store and ship purified DNA and cell samples at room temperature. All samples are ready for use in any downstream application such as PCR, transformation, transfection, sequencing, genotyping, STR analysis, etc.

Biomatrica’s SampleMatrix technology and Qiagen’s exclusive rights are expected to be broadened to include the stabilization, shipping, and storage of DNA molecules in blood and buccal swab samples for subsequent purification of the stabilized DNA for any kind of downstream application and for use in all markets. The existing and future products will be manufactured by Biomatrica and exclusively marketed and sold by Qiagen.

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.

Do you agree that ecstasy should be studied for its potential therapeutic benefits?
