Biogen Idec Taps Evotec for Hit-Identification Research

  • Evotec entered into a research agreement with Biogen Idec to find hit molecules against a target selected by Biogen Idec. The firm has the option to add more targets.

    Evotec will provide Biogen Idec with access to its full range of screening technologies and library of compounds. The company will use its background in protein production and assay development to develop new assays for the initial target.

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
