Applied Bio Licenses GE Healthcare Biomagnetic Isolation Patents

  • GE Healthcare completed a license agreement with Applied Biosystems, granting Applied Biosystems access to GE Healthcare patents for the biomagnetic isolation of nucleic acids.

    The license, which is valid for the lifetime of the patents, grants Applied Biosystems certain rights with respect to the isolation and purification of nucleic acids using GE Healthcare’s magnetic separation technology.

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
