  • The U.S. CDC and non-profit CDC Foundation are tapping into the expertise of AB Sciex as part of their ongoing Hormone Standardization Project initiative to improve the reliability of steroid hormone testing in clinical research and patient care.

The aim is to develop a mass spectrometry/HPLC-based reference method to aid assessment of the comparability, specificity, and reliability of hormone testing results in clinical laboratories. As part of the collaboration AB Sciex has provided the CDC Foundation with access to a QTrap® 5500 System to develop the reference method.

The firm’s announcement of its participation in the Hormone Standardization Project comes less than a week after it reported establishing a new partnership with the ETH Zurich Institute of Molecular Systems Biology as part of the Swiss Systems Biology Program. This collaboration will hinge on developing a method using the QTrap 5500 System to dramatically cut the time for quantitative analysis of metabolites.
