Providing Reagents for Life Science Research and Product Development

Cell Sciences’ laboratories produce quality immunochemicals and hematology reagents for life science research. Our pipeline provides products for use within the research, biotechnology, and biopharmaceutical communities. Our goal is to provide our customers with the highest quality research biochemical reagents available to help them further basic life science research, to conduct studies of various disease states, and to facilitate product development within their own institutions.

Proteins and Antibodies for Research and Development

Cell Sciences’ native or recombinant proteins and antibodies include adhesion molecules, antimicrobial and host defense peptides, CD antigens, chemokines, coagulation factors, cytokines, ECM molecules, enzymes, growth factors, hormones, interferons, interleukins, kinases and phosphatases, lymphokines, neurotrophic factors, receptors, regulatory peptide factors, signal transduction mediators, and toxins. Cell Sciences offers thousands of biologically active proteins, affinity purified polyclonal antibodies, and monoclonal antibodies. Antibodies are available in a variety of formats including azide free, biotinylated, and FITC conjugated, with bulk purchase options available.

Biomedical research applications for our products include bioassays, immunoassays, and flow cytometric assays in such numerous biomedical interdisciplinary research areas as angiogenesis and vascular research, apoptosis, cancer cell studies, cell growth and differentiation, endocrinology, fibrinolysis, hematology, immunology, innate immunity, immunotherapy, inflammation, neurobiology, neuroimmunology, stem cell research, tissue engineering, and wound healing.

Cytokine ELISA Kits and Matched Antibody Pairs Kits

Cell Sciences cytokine ELISA kits are highly sensitive immunoassays developed for the in vitro quantitative and qualitative determination of cytokines from human serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatant. Cell Sciences also manufactures matched antibody pair kits for ELISA, a cost effective do-it-yourself option. These matched antibody pair kits offer the same quality, sensitivity, and performance as cytokine ELISA kits.

Products for Cell and Tissue Culture Applications

Cell Sciences produces hormones and growth factors for cell culture. Insulin-like growth factor-1 is the principal hormonal mediator of structural growth. In target tissues, the Type 1 IGF receptor, which is homologous to the insulin receptor, is activated by IGF-1, leading to intracellular signaling, which stimulates multiple processes leading to structural growth. Cell Sciences is a supplier of Recombinant Human LR3 IGF-1, a long-term analog of human IGF-1, specifically designed for mammalian cell culture to support large-scale manufacturing of recombinant biopharmaceuticals. It works as a culture media additive to increase the final yield of proteins produced by mammalian cells.

Cell Sciences also produces erythropoietin in mammalian cells for use in cell and tissue culture applications. EPO is a glycoprotein hormone that controls red blood cell production. It is a cytokine for erythrocyte precursors in the bone marrow. It is produced by the kidney peritubular capillary endothelial cells and regulates red blood cell production. Cell Sciences Recombinant Human EPO is a glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 165 amino acids.

CD14 and LBP Reagents to Study Acute-Phase Immune Responses to Bacteria

CD14 is the 53-kD glycophosphatidylinositol (GPI)-linked glycoprotein and functions as high affinity endotoxin (LPS) receptor on the surface of monocytes, macrophages, and granulocytes as well as brain cells. Together with TLR4 and a lymphocytic antigen (MD2), CD14 is the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-Receptor and mediates innate immune response to bacterial lipoproteins. In the presence of LPS, CD14-expression can be amplified by TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta. CD14 is present in a soluble form in human serum, urine, and other body fluids, which is directly secreted or derived from protease-dependent shedding of the membrane bound molecule. Soluble CD14 (sCD14) competes with membrane-bound CD14 (mCD14) for LPS binding and is able to neutralize LPS-induced responses in vitro and in vivo and mediates the LPS-induced activation of non-CD14-expressing endothelial, epithelial, and smooth-muscle cells.

LBP (Lipopolysaccharide binding protein) is a 58-kD acute phase glycoprotein. It binds to the lipid A portion of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) with high affinity and catalyzes the CD14 and TLR4 dependent cellular activation by LPS. LBP interacts with CD14, TLR2, TLR4 und the co-receptor MD-2. LBP is involved in the acute-phase immunologic response to gram-negative bacterial infections. Gram-negative bacteria contain LPS on their outer cell wall. Together with bactericidal permeability-increasing protein (BPI), LBP binds LPS and interacts with the CD14 receptor, probably playing a role in regulating LPS-dependent monocyte responses.

Cell Sciences manufactures a Human LBP ELISA kit with multispecies reactivity for the quantification of free human LBP. This kit works with multiple species including pig, rabbit, bovine, canine, horse, sheep, and goat. Mouse and rat LBP ELISA kits, CD14 ELISAs, and both monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies are offered in this product range.
