CSHL Harbor Transcript

  • Good user interface, interactive magazine
  • Cannot download previous issues
Platform:   iPad
Cost:   Free

The folks at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) are doing some pretty neat things—and now you can read all about CSHL happenings (in the lab as well as within the scientific community) with the CSHL Harbor Transcript iPad app. This app is a reader for the Harbor Transcript, CSHL’s free magazine. As a reader, the app works nicely—an introduction page instructs users how to navigate the magazine, which is interactive in the sense that it includes video clips that readers can explore. A limitation to the app is that there does not appear to be any way to download past issues of the Harbor Transcript magazine. There is a “store” icon at the top of the screen, but the link did not work for me. And so I eagerly await the next issue to arrive in my library…
