Summary:

As a researcher who has embarked down the path of the mouse model organism, I can tell you that Wormatlas is exactly the type of site that makes me envy all of the worm people out there. The utility of Caenorhabditis elegans as a model to study behavior becomes immediately clear as you explore the “individual neuron” pages. That’s right, pick any neuron you’d like and you can see its projections and expression pattern. There are also maps of the entire worm displaying all of the neurons in their anatomical positions. (A longing sigh…) This site isn’t merely neuron-centric, though. One of the most useful aspects of the page is the pair of handbooks for hermaphrodite and male worms, respectively (with an embryonic handbook under development). These handbooks include detailed anatomical information covering all aspects of physiology, complete with gorgeous graphics.
