Wellcome Image Awards
Allow me to welcome you to the website for the Wellcome Image awards, a showcase of the best and most stunning biological images from the Wellcome Image collection. Without giving away too many spoilers, the winners’ gallery for 2012 includes images of the developing vascular system of a chicken embryo and a scanning electron micrograph of a moth fly, to name a few. Each image is accompanied with blurbs that answer questions such as, “how was this image created?” and “why did the judges select this image?” Beyond simply being composed of the winners’ galleries for 2012 and previous years as well, the website also includes a section that describes the various imaging techniques used to create the winning images. These include electron microscopy, diffusion tensor tractography, and x-ray computer tomography, among others.
