The Visualization Challenge (“the Vizzies” for short) is a visualization competition co-sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Popular Science that showcases beautiful visualizations from science and engineering. Celebrating their fifteenth year, the Vizzies award cash prizes to the winners of five different categories: photography, illustration, video, posters and graphics, and interactive graphics. Even if they’re not considering a submission themselves, scientists will no doubt take much delight in visiting the Vizzies website, where they can view current and past winners in each of the categories (and cast their vote for the People’s Choice winners during the open competition period). However, while site visitors can view the static illustrations and video submissions in their entirety, unfortunately the interactive submissions (which consist of games, web applications, and apps) are not accessible in their interactive form. Still, there is a lot of eye candy on this site and you won’t likely be disappointed.
