PNNL Biological MS Data and Software Distribution Center

omics.pnl.gov
  • Large number of free software downloads, nicely organized site
  • Most of the software only runs with Microsoft Windows

In the current climate of fierce competition among laboratories for funding and publications, it is refreshing whenever I come across websites dedicated to the dissemination of data and analysis tools. Such is the case with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Biological MS Data and Software Distribution Center (what a mouthful!). On this site, visitors can browse (either by publication, organism, creation date, or instrument used) the mass spectrometry data generated by the laboratory and subsequently download the data files. Alternatively, visitors (at least, those with a PC) can take advantage of the free-to-download proteomics software, which includes MS/MS analysis tools, data-analysis and data-presentation tools, and MS data file utilities, among others. There are approximately 50 software downloads in all.
