This one goes out to all of the graduate students. (I imagine that you are reading this at some late hour while sitting at your lab bench, waiting for your incubation to be complete, and you could use some light-hearted amusement to pass the time.) While comic strips are not often reviewed in this column, I have to designate Jorge Cham’s Piled Higher and Deeper (PhD) comic as being one of the best “science fun” websites out there. Subtitled as “Life (or the lack thereof) in Academia,” this comic documents graduate student life with impressive accuracy. It’s impossible to reproduce the humor here, but suffice it to say that if you’ve ever felt overworked, defeated, or frustrated in the lab, you’ll find something here to laugh about.
