Rating:
Strong Points: Great collection of links
Weak Points: Needs a better introduction page to the site’s contents

Summary:

I challenge you to find a more complete online resource for wheat, barley, rye, and oats (or, in fancier terms, Triticeae and Avena). GrainGenes, a website through the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, provides a great deal of grainy information. Visitors can browse genetic maps, gene markers, and sequences, and they can also utilize the four featured tools on the site: Quick Queries, GBrowse (a genome browser), CMap (a map display), and the Wheat Binmap Viewer. The site also provides an extensive collection of links to other agricultural resources, categorized by genomics, mapping, germ plasm, pathology, taxonomy, and publications. With so much contained within the site, my only complaint is that there isn’t more of an introduction page to orient visitors to all of the content.
