I’ll give ten dollars to anyone who can guess what the acronym GABI represents, given the hint that this is a network of various plant genomic research projects. Anyone? If you guessed “Genomanalyse im biologischen System Pflanze,” then come claim your prize. (Yeah, yeah—the foreign language twist was a bit unfair.) So what is GABI? Well, it is an online hub for all things plant genomics, such as a BLAST search that searches not only against numerous public databases but also against nonpublic data stored in the GABI primary database (PD). The proteomics feature of the site allows users to view interactive 2D-gels and browse data related to identified protein spots from those gels, while the maps feature offers genetic and physical maps for one’s viewing pleasure. The site also includes a news feature to keep any respectable plant biologist up to date.
