Summary:
This is the month for offbeat sites and probably no other site this month better exemplifies this theme than Flowers in Ultra-Violet. On the site visitors can view a wide variety of flowers, photographed in visible and ultraviolet light. What, you might wonder, other than trivial curiosity, would merit putting together a site like this? Ah–glad you asked. The insect world, which helps pollinate a large number of plant species has eyes that see beyond the visible spectrum that we humans see. Thus, viewing plants in UV or IR provides insights into what features of a plant may stand out to an insect. In addition to a large collection of interesting images, the author also provides a tutorial on UV/IR photography, which is quite informative.
