Cell Junctions

  • "Construction" needs finishing
There is a lot of excitement in the field of cell to cell communications. From the well known Gap junctions (small channels between cells) to the lesser known desmosomes (anchor points of contact between cells), there are many ways in which cells can interact. Keeping track of them is the aim of the Cell Junctions site, hosted by the Cowin lab at the New York Medical Center. With topic categories that include desmosomes, hemidesmosomes, adherens, tight junctions, focal contact, and gap junctions, the site would appear to be well positioned to cover this topic. There’s a fly in that ointment, unfortunately, as four of the six topic areas were “under construction,” when I reviewed the website. That’s too bad, as the missing information would be welcome and help fill a gap in our knowledge of this important field. Hopefully it will be expanded significantly in the future.
