The people behind BioEDUCATE, a product of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB), certainly know how to capture one’s attention—with catchy science diagrams and intriguing animations, of course! The homepage of BioEDUCATE is simple in its design, but the space is used to the maximum effect. The first thing you’ll probably notice is a video of a cell dividing—the icon for the ASCB’s Image and Video Library. This is one of six resources listed under “ASCB Educational Resources.” Beneath the “Web Resources” tab, you’ll find a number of links arranged by presentations, animations and visual resources, and active learning resources. (Additional links can also be found under the three tabs lining the bottom of the site: general education, teaching evolution, and education journals.) From colorful images of mitosis to animations that play before your eyes, the resources of BioEDUCATE are sure to captivate!

Scientifically Studying Ecstasy

MDMA (commonly known as the empathogen “ecstasy”) is classified as a Schedule 1 drug, which is reserved for compounds with no accepted medical use and a high abuse potential. Two researchers from Stanford, however, call for a rigorous scientific exploration of MDMA's effects to identify precisely how the drug works, the data from which could be used to develop therapeutic compounds.
