AOCS: Your Home for Fats, Oils, and Surfactants

URL:www.aocs.org
  • News, links
  • Weak in content
I’ll bet you didn’t know you had a “home” for fats, oils, and surfactants, did you? I know my own gut has been providing a bit of a home for the fats/oils this past winter and it is time for an eviction. I had to look all over this site to try to find what AOCS stood for—American Oil Chemists’ Society. If I hadn’t known from the opening page that it was food-related, I’d have thought that I’d stumbled on something related to OPEC. The site is (unfortunately) a rather typical organizational site. It has services for members, a directory, a list of publications, books, CDs (all for sale), and even a technical services section. There are also a lot of other miscellaneous things that will probably only appeal to AOCS members. The best parts I saw include a nice collection of industry links, a news section, a methods section, and a calendar listing of various meetings of importance. While it is not the most inspired site I’ve seen on lipids, it is, in fact, a reasonable site for a professional organization.
